The 7th & 8th graders have been hard at work this year on all sorts of art adventures.  This class has a true eye for good art, and many of them are drawn to the abstract.  Don’t ask – “what is it?”, rather we encourage just to enjoy the aesthetic feel of each piece.  Leave [...]

Friday, September 7, was such a beautiful day that it was impossible to stay inside!  To remedy the situation, Mr. Splittgerber devised an Art Challenge !(modeled after the Food Network’s Food Challenge)  Here’s how it worked:1) Each student was randomly paired with another. 2) The groups were to sketch their designs and decide what to draw. [...]

The purpose of this comparison is to further illustrate the evolution of the 7th & 8th graders’ growing artistic skills.  The students were asked to improve on the pencil compositions by addressing the weaknesses found in the critiques of their work. Some students greatly improved their first effort while others did not.  The varying results is [...]

Charcoal Compositions

Sunday, August 12th, 2007
http://www.zionkearney.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/morgan2.thumbnail.jpg

After completing their pencil compositions, the 7th & 8th grade students were asked to improve the theme and/or composition they had made but now using charcoal as the medium.  Charcoal can provide more striking contrasts, but requires great restraint and mistakes are not easy to fix.  In general, I believe the students did very well [...]
