Primary Level Education
At Zion Lutheran School we offer a strong primary level education for families interested in excellent, Christ-centered education.
Primary School
Schedule: The primary school classes of grades 1-5 operate on the same full-time schedule as the 6th through 8th grades. Class meets daily Monday through Friday from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm.
Class size: Zion offers first grade and two combined grade classes: a 2nd and 3rd grade combination, and a 4th and 5th grade combination. Class size varies, but most classes have 12-17 students. Curious about the small class size and the nature of the combined class? Keep reading!
Student/teacher ratio: 12-17:1 Each primary level class has a main homeroom teacher, though p.e. is taught by UNK student teachers and music is taught by our music teacher.
Benefits of the combined classroom: There are many reasons that a combined classroom can provide a superior education for your child:
- Students will have the same teacher for two years; in this time students and teachers develop a strong relationship that facilitates learning. Teachers gain an intimate knowledge of each student’s strengths and weaknesses and can tailor lessons to meet the child’s needs.
- Students thrive academically. In a combination classroom, some subjects are taught whole class on a two year cycle and other classes are taught separately by grade or level of achievement.
- Students in the higher of the two classes often develop leadership skills and serve as models and mentors to their younger classmates. This is how we maintain such a positive and well-behaved student body. The older students model to the younger each year.
Cost: $3500 a year. Don’t let this number scare you, we offer scholarships and tuition assistance to those who would like to send their child to Zion but are unable to afford it. We never want finances to be a deterrent to a family wanting to send their child to Zion.
Teachers: Tracie King is the full-time teacher of the 1st & 2nd grade class. Mrs. Fattig is the homeroom teacher of the 3rd and 4th grade class and Mrs. Willers is the homeroom teacher of the 5th grade class. (see faculty page for more information)
