PEACE 2010

On the evening of Saturday, March 27, 2010 the Zion Lutheran School held its inaugral P.E.A.C.E. (People Excited About Christian Education) auction and dinner at the Ramada Inn in Kearney, Nebraska.  The night included a silent auction, a wonderful meal prepared by talented Chef Poche, an inspirational speech  given by Zion alumnus Chris Nuttelman (co-captain of the UNL track team), a live auction, and entertainment by the UNK group, Third Hand Improv.  The evening was a smashing success as we had our highest turnout of attendees and the final profits from the campaign look to nearly triple last year’s event!  The number of donors and auction items were truly a blessing.  God is good!

The auction and dinner marked a new direction as it was not held in Zion’s gymnasium as it had been traditionally.  The coordinating committee of Marcia Fox, Sharon Obasi, Rachel Strong, and Lisa Splittgerber put in tireless hours of planning and preparation.  They were assisted by many others who also committed a great deal of time, including:  Rhonda Kathol, Courtney Louis, Dr. Nathan & Liz Gaunt, Tina Redwine, Dixie Sickles, and Brian Steele.

Funds raised at the auction were applied to refurshing the school library and tuition assistance.  Over $8,000 of the P.E.A.C.E. 2010 proceeds was designated to a much needed renovation of the school library.  After many moves, the library has found its home in Zion’s basement formally known as the fellowship hall many years prior.  However, it was in need of some tender love and care.  After countless volunteer hours, new carpet was installed, lighting updated, windows were replaced, and paneling was primed and painted.  In addition to the cosmetic update of the library, a new computer and library software program were purchased.  With the help of Zion school parents and Mr. & Mrs. Kowalczyk, the 3,500+ Zion library books were bar coded and entered into the system.
